Protecting Finnish Forests with Abilar

Although more than 75% of Finland’s land area is covered by forest, the amount of old natural forest is decreasing year by year. For biodiversity, the quality of forests is just as important as the quantity.

Even if several new trees are planted for every one that is harvested, they cannot replace the lost biodiversity – which is vital for animals and their habitats.

By purchasing Abilar Wound Balm, you help protect Finnish forests. For every tube sold, we protect 1 m² of Finnish forest.

The active ingredient, spruce resin, is carefully hand-harvested without harming the trees. Fresh resin naturally regenerates in the same spot.

Old northern spruce forests are the best areas for resin harvesting, and these forests are especially important to protect.

Our Campaign for Forest Biodiversity

With our campaign launched in March 2025, we want to highlight the importance of biodiversity and make conservation easy for everyone – since Abilar Wound Balm is available in pharmacies nationwide.

The protected area is located in Northern Ostrobothnia. It is home to many mature-forest birds such as Siberian jays, crested tits, and treecreepers. The area includes old spruce swamps, pine-dominated heath forests, and overgrown fen meadows.

Together with the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation, Repolar is expanding this protected area step by step.

Sustainable Use of Forests

We want to demonstrate that forests can be utilized in a sustainable way – without cutting down trees.
